Ely Eel Day

Got a call from the BBC’s Look East, our regional news program. The researcher I spoke to seemed to be half convinced that he may possibly perhaps, if push comes to shove, do a piece on Eels and Ely Eel Day.
He was looking for a local Eel farm. Which, as far as I know, there [...]

Busting down the doors to get to our smoked salmon

Hot news from River Farm Smokery is that the shop was broken into whilst I was away.
Sensibly, the intruders carefully moved oils and vinegars off the shelves so as not to cause any unecessary damage on their way in.
They then proceeded to peruse our collection of fine continental foods, British cheeses, and luxury ice creams [...]

Back from Kernow

A good holiday notable, on the food front, for the following:
* Eating some of my own smoked haddock which was wonderful.
* Buying the most expensive leg of lamb I have had the misfortune to purchase. £14.96 per Kg - thanks very much Mr Kittow.
* Eating lots of fish and chips.
* Abi [...]

…..and relax

Off to Polruan for a week tomorrow. Undecided on whether to take the laptop. Don’t want all those pasty crumbs falling between the keys ya know.
So things may be quiet for a while.

Ely Eel Day

Ely, just up the road from Cambridge, is having it’s annual Eel day on the 29th April.
I’ve been chatting with one of the organisers about supplying some smoked eel for the event but it may be that we found out about it too late to organise. I’m off on hols next week too.
What is left [...]

OPML issues

I read a number of other blogs in Firefox using Sage. From this, I can export all my feeds/bookmarks into an OPML file.
In theory I should be able to import this into my blog via Word Press. Though this is failing for some unknown reason. Any readers know why?
I mention this as I want to [...]

More bacon

Last night I wrote about looking for new bacon. In part because I think we could produce a better product.
Today, someone phones up from Cornwall saying that ours is the best smoked bacon he’s ever tasted and would like 5 kilos of it.
If it ain’t broke…..

Bacon Quest pt. 5 (or something)

As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve been thinking about bacon a lot and am really keen for us to source some better quality locally produced bacon.
The bacon we smoke is fine and, for the price, is very good. But I think we can do much better. We’re keen to find both a high end bacon producer [...]

Paint

This year we’re expanding the River Farm Smokery shop in order to get more business. We could easily double the amount of customers we currently get and we want to go further than that.
In order to attract people to come and shop with us we have to tidy up the site, put up a new [...]
