The Telegraph writes

A brief mention in the Telegraph on Saturday. See here for details.
One pertinent fact the journo reveals is that Newmarket has ‘no greengrocer, deli or artisan baker’. Most of us at the smokery live in Cambridge and Newmarket is only visited for brief shopping trips for non-food essentials. I wonder if there is potential for [...]

Illinois v. Louisiana

Prior to the smoked pork scratchings escapade I took it upon myself to inject some spice into proceedings at the smokery. Well, not injecting per se, more administering by hand.
Magic Dust is what Mike Mills (no, not that one) the Illinois barbecuer calls his own blend of spices that he uses to rub on his [...]

Identity Crisis

Of the two or so people who link to my blog, about 50% of them refer to it as a food blog. THat’s what I want to be writing about but I fear this may be turning into an engineering blog.
Fans have played a major part in my life recently as I have struggled to [...]

Feed me. Feed me.

My RSS feeds appeared to be up the spout. Thinks they’re working again now.
Did anyone else notice this?
Anyone?
Anyone?
Bueller?

Buy stuff

I had a brief discussion with Chris last week about the blog. He has heard mention of it and, should he figure out how to use the interweb, he may well read it one day too. For now though he is busy running the company and trying to make money for us all. He should [...]

Discomfort

I am feeling weak and unsteady. Reeling, like a small but not insignificant part of me is missing; lost down the wastepipes at smokery. I am broken like a sensitive coalminer’s son in a DH Lawrence novel. Only part man.
No, it’s not Joss Stone’s outfit and performance at the Brits that has caused this. It [...]

Fans n shit

Kittens now asleep. Beer in wine glass replaced by wine in wine glass. Dinner was half a smoked mackerel, two double-yolk soft-boiled eggs, two pieces of toast and a gherkin since you asked.
Anyway, I started last week with sustained engineering work on the fan in our hot kiln. (I’m thinking of calling the hot kiln [...]

Prevention

Two new kittens are conspiring to stop me from updating my blog. Percy is following the cursor and toying with the the mouse lead. I can’t actually see the screen whilst I type this. I fear for my winglass’ safety too.
I will try again after dinner.
Days later the problem is still apparent.

Nutritionism

A superb article in the NY Times by Michael Pollan where he discusses at length healthy eating, nutrition, and something he calls food.
From the opening paragraph:
“Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.
That, more or less, is the short answer to the supposedly incredibly complicated and confusing question of what we humans should eat in order [...]
